RATTLE – A Gravel Race

Get ready to shake things up on Sunday, September 7th, 2025, as Aruba hosts it is first-ever gravel cycling raceRATTLE. This brand-new event promises to bring the raw, adventurous spirit of gravel racing to the island like never before.

Starting and finishing in front of the Cascabel Airfield, riders will take on a challenging 11.4km loop weaving through the rugged landscapes of Juana Morto and Colony. Expect fast gravel sectors, open terrain, and just the right amount of asphalt to keep things interesting. Whether you are racing for the podium or for the thrill, this course is made to test your engine.

Gravel bikes and mountain bikes are both welcome — this is a mass start event that embraces the inclusive and untamed spirit of gravel racing. 

Whether you are a seasoned road warrior, a mountain goat, or just curious about this exciting new discipline that is taking the cycling world by storm, RATTLE is your chance to be part of history and push your limits.

Registration & timing:

Registration will close on Thursday September 4th. It is NOT possible for the organization to add participants after this date.

Participation fee: AWG 35 / $20

Race day check-in:

You will need to check-in before the start of the race. 

Check-in is from 6:00AM to 6:45AM for all participants. Failure to check in on time will result in DNS (did not start). NO EXCEPTIONS!

The race will start at 7:00AM right next to the Cascabel Airfield. Please be on time!

When there are fewer than 5 participants in a category, that category may be merged with another at the discretion of the organizers and the Aruba Cycling Federation (AWB).

Please pay attention to the different zones. Keep the organizer’s zone free. Support zone is to be used by teams for support to their riders only. Not for parking or spectating.

Rules & Regulations:

Rattle gravel race is a mass start cycling event. All participants must respect the following rules to ensure fairness, safety, and sportsmanship.

Equipment

  • Only Gravel and MTBs are allowed (as defined by UCI regulations).
  • No e-bikes, road bikes, or time trial bikes permitted.
  • No aerobars or clip-on extensions allowed.
  • Helmets must be worn and fastened at all times while on the bike.
  • NO riding in sleeveless shirts or wearing headphones.

Safety

  • Riders must respect traffic rules and follow instructions from race officials and police at all times.
  • Stay on the designated course. Any deviation may result in disqualification.
  • Dangerous or reckless riding will not be tolerated.

Fair Play & Sportsmanship

  • Riders must compete with fairness and respect for others.
  • Outside assistance is only permitted in the form of food, drink, or mechanical support and only in the designated feed zone.
  • No physical assistance is allowed (e.g., pushing, towing, or helping a rider accelerate forward).
  • No drafting behind vehicles or other forms of unfair advantage are allowed.
  • Respect fellow competitors—unsportsmanlike behavior may result in penalties or disqualification.

Race Conduct

  • The event is a mass start where riders will have to complete multiple laps around a circuit; the rider that completes all laps first is the winner.
  • Riders must complete the course in the correct order and pass all checkpoints (if applicable).
  • Any protests must be submitted in writing to the Race Commissaire within 15 minutes of finishing. 

Responsibility

  • All riders participate at their own risk.
  • By registering, participants confirm they are physically fit and accept the risks of racing in Aruba’s conditions (heat, wind, terrain, traffic).
  • No littering during the entire race! Keep gels and other packaging on the bike or on rider until the finish. Littering may result in disqualification waste bins will be available at the finish line.

 

Awards:

Only the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of each category will be awarded.

There will also be an award for the top 3 males (Pre-Master, Master A, Master B combined AND Junior, Master C, Master D combined) and females overall winners.
