 The Aruba Aquatic Federation extends a cordial invitation to you to participate in the First Annual (Open) Aruba Open Water Championships Swim. The event will take place on Sunday, June 9, 2024 at the Spaans Lagoen at Pos Chiquito, Aruba.

1. Race Programme 

June 9: 

8:00: Start 3KM Boys and Girls,  Check-in will begin at 7:00 

9:00: Start 5 km Boys and Girls,  Check-in will begin at 8:00 

9:05: Start 10 km Boys and Girls, Check-in will begin at 8:00 

2. Age 

3KM: 13-15 years Female/Male

3KM: 16-18 years “ 

3KM: 19-29 years “ 

 

5KM: 14-17 years Female/Male 

5KM: 18+ 

 

10KM: 14+ years (open) Female/Male

3. Awards:

The first-place finishers in each category/age group/gender will be awarded trophies.

The 2nd and 3rd place in each category/age group/gender will be awarded medals.

 4. Aruba Champions

The (Open) Aruba championship is open for all nationalities, but the first Aruba resident (despite nationality) or Aruba born swimmer (male and female) to pass the finish in their distance will be Aruba Champion. To be clear: 6 Aruba Champions awards: (3  5-10KM FemaleMale).

 4. Registration 

Entries will be accepted online only until  June 7th 2023 18:00

No registrations or changes will be accepted on the day of the race. No exceptions !

With online registration All participants agree with release of liability. Swimmers under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian to fill in the online registration. 

 5. Technical Equipment 

Electronic Timing will be used for 3KM, 5KM and 10KM events; each athlete will have wrist chips. 

The finish line will also include video cameras for back-up place judging. 

Aruba Swimming Federation officials will record the results.

6. Format 

The course will be a 1,25K loop with the start and finish at the same general location as indicated by the referee. An athlete will finish the race by touching the finish board located under the finish apparatus after completing the required distance. A swimmer touching the board before finishing the required distance will be disqualified.

 11. Race venue

The start and the finish for the 3, 5 and 10 KM race will be at the Spaans Lagoen, Pos Chiquito.

The course will be marked by buoys indicating the start and turning points and will have a rectangular shape. The course will have a distance of 1,25 KM.

Exploration of the course is from 7:00 AM to 7:30 AM.

Feeding Station. There will be a feeding station available for 10K swimmers. 1 Coach per swimmer will be allowed. The feeding pole cannot exceed 5 meters and has to be pre-approved by the Judge

7. Rules 

The race will be held as much as circumstances allow to be in accordance with the conditions outlined in the following documents that will be in force at Championships time: WORLD AQUATICS ("FINA") Open Water Swimming Rules (2024) available at aqua.org including the OTL (Over Time Limit) rule of 15 minutes after the first swimmer in their respective category and gender has finished and 30 minutes for the 10 KM.

8. Clothing and Equipment: 

Clothing and equipment used by athletes in the Championships to be eligible for prizes must comply with the documents listed in the FINA Open Water Swimming Rules available at fina.org. 

9. Technical Meeting 

The technical meeting for the 3, 5 and 10KM will take place at the start area on June 11, at 7:30. The meeting will be open to swimmers and coaches only. Athletes must attend to confirm their participation in the events.

Athletes under 18 will participate only if their designated representatives (parents/custodians/coaches) are present at the open water event. A representative must complete their online registration and agree with the terms and conditions..

 10. Medical exams

All Competitors shall be subject to a compulsory medical examination at the event venue before the start of the event.  

 11. Protests

All protests against the Referees decision must be submitted to the Referee in writing within 30 minutes after the event in question.

It should be signed by the Representative and accompanied by AWG 25.00.

The fee is refundable if the protest is upheld.

Awards ceremony for all 3 races will be 30 minutes after the last race finished
